IBPA

I attended the International Bully Prevention Association conference in Indianapolis on 11/6-11/8. I had the opportunity to meet many people who are using the PSB program. I also was at the Hazelden exhibitor booth. The PSB book sold quite a few copies at the conference. It was great experience to hear all of the terrific things being done around our country.

Schenectady Schools

Go to the Schenectady School District website and read a story on the Peaceful School Bus at the Hamilton Elementary School.  There are great photos to see on the site also.

News from Minneapolis

Here is what I found on the Minneapolis Public Schools website:

"I' ve had a peaceful year on the bus. People have been sharing seats with me.  I have not seen many problems on the bus.  My bus driver makes me feel safe when I get on the bus"-Student

"The number of referrals from school bus drivers has dropped.  Students are talking about issues that happen on the bus.  Meeting as a bus route group and doing cooperative learning activities helps students know each other better.  Students are empowered to make their school bus a better place to be."  Principal

News

I received an email from Mohonasen School District.  They have started the program and have had good success.  Here is the link to their district website describing what they have been doing:

Getting started

The Peaceful School Bus program has now been published as a facilitators guide including a DVD and CD-Rom by Hazelden (Hazelden.org). I am aware of some schools that are using it, but I would love to know about all the schools using it. I would also like to be available to answer questions that the users of the program might have. Since the Peaceful School Bus program is designed to be adaptable to any school, I would like to hear about how the program has been implemented in other places. I am sure that there are great ideas or solutions to problems that your school would like to share. Hopefully this site could be a way for schools who are using it to connect with each other.

I am new to blogging and created this on my own, so bear with me as I learn the best ways to use this. Please feel free to email me directly at dillonj@guilderlandschools.org.

If you are using the program and don't have anything to share, you can just say "hi" letting me know where you are and how it's going.

If you stumble upon this site and would like to know more about the program go the Hazelden site and search for the Peaceful School Bus. The site gives an overview of the program along with sample lesson plans and a video showing the program in action.
